Copy and paste this prompt into ChatGPT to start.

“I have a meeting about [Topic, e.g., the new marketing plan] tomorrow. I am nervous.

  1. Give me 5 simple sentences I can use to:
    • Ask someone to speak slower.
    • Say ‘I agree with you.’
    • Say ‘I have a question.’
    • Ask for a deadline.
  2. Explain these phrases in simple English.
  3. Give me a ‘survival’ phrase for when I don’t understand anything at all!”

Practice Prompts.

  1. The “Slow Down” Prompt: “How do I tell my boss ‘Você está falando muito rápido’ without being rude? Give me a professional way to ask them to slow down.”
  2. Opinion Practice: “I want to say ‘Eu acho que essa ideia é boa.’ Give me 3 different ways to say ‘I think…’ (e.g., ‘In my opinion…’, ‘I believe…’).”
  3. The Clarification: “If I didn’t hear a number or a date, how do I ask for it? Give me a short question for ‘Pode repetir a data?'”

Real-World Task.

Task: Prepare your “Introduction” for a meeting.

  • What to do: Write 2 sentences about what you will talk about in the meeting.
  • Which prompt to use: “I am in a meeting. I need to say: ‘Today I want to talk about the sales report.’ Can you make this sound more professional? Also, suggest a way to ask ‘Does anyone have questions?’ at the end.”
  • Focus: Use “Can you run that by me one more time?” if you need someone to repeat a complex idea. It sounds very natural!

A reflection prompt to ask ChatGPT.

“ChatGPT, sometimes I get nervous and forget my English in meetings. Can you give me 3 very short ‘emergency’ phrases (3 words maximum) that I can write on a Post-it note to help me during the call?”
